2010 holiday party
Here at MACED, our staff is committed to putting MACED’s values into practice. This is true, even when it comes to planning an event such as our annual holiday party. When setting goals for the 2010 party, MACED’s holiday committee not only wanted to plan a great party, but they also wanted to ensure that MACED’s vision, specifically, the core value of the importance of local people and places, was upheld.
The committee decided to search for local businesses to provide food and entertainment. Fortunately for the committee, their search was surprisingly uncomplicated. Black Feather Café is a locally owned café in Berea that specializes in providing its customers with dishes made from scratch, with a majority of its ingredients being sourced from local producers. The Black Feather prepared a delicious array of local foods, including free-range roasted chicken, grass-fed roast beef, salad greens, bread and desserts made on-site with locally milled flour, as well as soups and cooked veggies made from local produce. The planning committee rented the locally owned skating rink, Club Arena Roller Skating Rink. Staff and family were able to walk down the corner from the café to skate after their dinner.
That night, a crowd of approximately 75 people were in attendance, and a fun night was had by all. Staff and their families were able to mingle and catch up in the cozy quarters of the café. While down at the skating rink, children’s laughter was the prevailing sound.
To MACED, this is exactly what the importance of local people and places means. By taking advantage of the local assets in the community, MACED’s holiday planning committee organized an exciting party that benefited the local community.
